I loved doing daily photos so much during 2008 that I just HAD to continue. It's great fun and does so much for the improvement of my photography.

I'm not going to kill myself to get this perfect this year. There will be days that I just don't get anything and I'll be forced to upload an older photo or something along those lines. But I'm still going to be constantly improving myself and working at my art, and I have some very fun things planned for this year for me and my camera. :-)

I'll be doing something a little extra this year as well. Every day, I see so many amazing photos that very few people are noticing -- photos that are BEAUTIFUL and should be a little in the spotlight as well. So, every day, in addition to uploading an image of my own, I will also be posting a link to a photo I have found particularly inspiring in some way. You'll see a lot from the same artists, a few will be already somewhat popular, some might even be in the Dailies already, but most will be photos that I feel are very undervalued at the moment and should be seen by all! :-)

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted -- and there will be times now and then -- my photos are not post-processed beyond the occasional MINOR change in color saturation or some such simple, unobtrusive thing. With me, what you see is pretty much what you get. Even slight changes I reserve for merely amplifying and augmenting what is already there, I do not use photoshop to "fix" a photo -- I believe in polishing my photography first and foremost, so that is what I focus on. On occasion, I might play with a shot a little more than usual, mostly to learn a little bit more about how to do it -- a new challenge to tackle, if you will. :-)

So, unless I specify something I have done with a photo to make it different from what it started to be, you can assume that that is the way I took it.

Another from DanceSport -- this was from the professional showcase, this year we had Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova, a Latin couple who would just blow your minds! They're absolutely amazing to watch. This was a very exciting Paso Doble.

Once again, I apologize, I do not have a link for you. I just barely finished with all the uploading and I had so many things to get done today. I hope you'll all forgive me, I will try again tomorrow.

Sorry I haven't been on lately. Friday and Saturday were the DanceSport competition and my life has been completely taken up with the photos for that -- first taking them all, and then going through them and uploading them for those waiting to purchase copies of their events. I'm very nearly done with all the uploading (huzzah!) and I thought I'd share some with you here in the Dailies -- you'll probably be seeing several crop up in here over the next few days.

This one was a shot from the Amateur Standard competition, this couple won the event. I got a fun, different angle for a couple of the events this time around and took shots from ABOVE, as opposed to right on the floor. I was up with the lights (REALLY hot up there) and I didn't stay long, but it afforded me an interesting opportunity to look at the dancers from a different perspective.

And I'm sorry, I don't have any link today, I just haven't had time to find something fun. Apologies to all! I'll try to get one tomorrow.

Wow, I feel so honored by all the comments I've gotten on my recent posts! I can't believe the support of I've received, thank you guys so much! I was so apprehensive about doing those, I'm such a completely bonehead about post-processing, and it's not my usual style at all. So I was grateful to have such kindness from you guys.

But you get a new photo today. :-) Paul and I went out to dinner tonight at this new restaurant called "Pirate Island"! The food was okay, but the atmosphere was fun! I nabbed a few fun shots and this was my favorite -- he sits guarding his hordes of treasure right at the entrance. I HDR'd the thing (obviously) and loved the way the colors and textures came out of the rock. I'm working on another one as well from the arcade entrance, will show you that soon.

My link today is a new artist for me, and I LOVED the feel and unique look of this portrait. Hope you like it (by the way, does anyone still look at these links?)

As promised, the other shot I did with Picnik. This shot was taken in the same place as yesterday's, but I liked the closeup of just the colors.

And right now, I am totally and completely exhausted, so I am heading to bed.

But not before I give you your link for today:

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I've been getting ready for ballroom competition this weekend (I'm shooting, but I'm also in one single-dance event, doing the West Coast Swing) and I've been concentrating like crazy on my NaNoWriMo -- more than halfway there, I'm at over 30,000 words! (By the way, thanks to Dave/dedmanshootn for being so supportive! You've helped me keep going!)

This was actually taken last year, but I'm still playing a little with picnik, using several older photos, and since our autumn really was pathetic, I decided to put in a couple of decent fall color shots. I have another one I'll show you tomorrow. :-) Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Oh, and I must not forget my link today: Loved this wedding shot.

Sorry to give you an older one, guys, but between class, dance practice, running errands every which-a-way, writing, and our weekly "So You Think You Can Dance" get-together...I just had no time for photos today. So I grabbed one that I liked but didn't get to show you from our DC trip in August -- a closeup of the ceiling in the Capitol. Now that winter is approaching, you might actually get the occasional old shot when I find nothing better to shoot, I have a small reserve of photos -- trust me, winter here is DEPRESSINGLY anti-picturesque. I'll do my best, but I never get much good stuff during the winter months, except when I chance to go out of town to warmer climes. :-)

And the link -- and already quite popular photo, but so completely deserving of the honor!

Lo and behold -- FALL COLOR! There was this lovely little small patch of trees I found in my wanderings today and I just had to whip out the ol' camera and grab them! You don't usually see these trees or this color in Utah, but on occasion you find something. Actually, I had to crop this pretty seriously, I was only able to zoom in enough to capture mostly dead trees around this scene. Then I did a little extra softening in picnik and added a soft matte. Nothing major, took me about five seconds to do, but I thought it suited the scene.

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, my NaNo count now equals 13,452 -- I'm on a roll!

Today, in the spirit of autumn -- which is rapidly disappearing in spite of what this photo might seem to suggest -- I include a link to one of my current favorite autumn scenes.

So I think I finally decided what to work on for nanowrimo. My official work count is at nearly 6,000 -- 5,984, to be exact. 44,016 more words to go!

This shot is an uncommon thing for me -- this is an old photo, one of the very first shots I ever took with my Rebel. But today, I "spruced it up." I was just playing with picnik (an idea inspired by Terisa here on the Dailies, I had never used the thing before) and started trying random things. To be perfectly honest, I have NO earthly clue how this came out of what I did, I just fiddled around and BOOM, there it was. But I liked it and decided to show it off today. :-) Not being much of a post-processor, it's fun to stretch my own limitations a bit sometimes.

And for today's link, the shot that inspired me to try picnik in the first place -- I like her's much better than mine!

After one day of nanowrimo, I'm already a total basket case! I wrote about two thousand words or so (the word count goal being 50,000) -- but they were scattered between the beginnings of about four different stories. Because I still haven't actually figured out what I want to WRITE yet! This does not bode well for this year's attempt. It doesn't count if you work on multiple novels at once.

*sigh* Well, in the meantime, you get a less-than-stellar image. Aside from my usual shortcomings with wildlife, this snow leopard -- beauty that she was -- was viewed behind plexiglass AND a small fence. My depth of field managed to cut out most of the problems with the fence, but the dirty glass that is so common in zoos really wreaked havoc on what might otherwise have been a semi-decent shot. Ah, well. You take what you can get with a zoo.

However, this shot here -- my link for today -- is a much better image to look at than my snow leopard. One of the most unique and colorful images I've ever seen of this place.
