I loved doing daily photos so much during 2008 that I just HAD to continue. It's great fun and does so much for the improvement of my photography.

I'm not going to kill myself to get this perfect this year. There will be days that I just don't get anything and I'll be forced to upload an older photo or something along those lines. But I'm still going to be constantly improving myself and working at my art, and I have some very fun things planned for this year for me and my camera. :-)

I'll be doing something a little extra this year as well. Every day, I see so many amazing photos that very few people are noticing -- photos that are BEAUTIFUL and should be a little in the spotlight as well. So, every day, in addition to uploading an image of my own, I will also be posting a link to a photo I have found particularly inspiring in some way. You'll see a lot from the same artists, a few will be already somewhat popular, some might even be in the Dailies already, but most will be photos that I feel are very undervalued at the moment and should be seen by all! :-)

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted -- and there will be times now and then -- my photos are not post-processed beyond the occasional MINOR change in color saturation or some such simple, unobtrusive thing. With me, what you see is pretty much what you get. Even slight changes I reserve for merely amplifying and augmenting what is already there, I do not use photoshop to "fix" a photo -- I believe in polishing my photography first and foremost, so that is what I focus on. On occasion, I might play with a shot a little more than usual, mostly to learn a little bit more about how to do it -- a new challenge to tackle, if you will. :-)

So, unless I specify something I have done with a photo to make it different from what it started to be, you can assume that that is the way I took it.

So, I am back home with my family in Greensboro, NC, getting ready to celebrate the holidays. I have decided that Nature has voted me the Snow Goddess this year or something, because the snow has just followed me around this year -- Greensboro NEVER gets much snow this time of year (I got married in December out here, and it was 60 degrees, for crying out loud!) and no storms were in the forecast for this area until the day before I arrived. And even then, it was only supposed to be a little bit. But I get here and it dumps on us! It was just too weird.

Fortunately, everyone is safe. But I still think this is some cosmic joke on Laura -- I'm a warm-weather person, I don't need a white Christmas if it means being freezing cold! ;-)

Anyway, sorry I didn't post for a few days, I was traveling and then visiting with my family. This particular shot is an HDR I put together of this sweet, little-noticed spot at Caesar's Palace. No one ever sees it, it's tucked into a little shadowy corner. But I think it's one of the most charming spots in the city.

Hope everyone's having a great holiday season. I'll try and get another Christmas shot or two up here over the next couple of days, but since my mother's computer doesn't always read my camera well, I might have to rely on some older shots until I get home in January. Sorry about that! Will do my best, I've still been taking shots every day in hopes that I can post something fresh for you.

As my brother says, 5 days till Christmas! Let the countdown begin!

So today is the five-year anniversary of my marriage to my wonderful husband. It's almost hard to believe! Technically, our cruise was our big anniversary celebration (which doesn't leave us much for today) but today is the actual date we were married. And we're still so happy.

This shot was taken at the Venetian in Vegas -- one of the panels on the ceiling. If we hadn't done the cruise, we would have come to Vegas for a few days and probably stayed at this hotel. Ah, well, maybe next year. :-)

Today's link is one of the most beautiful winter shots I have ever seen. Enjoy.

I actually saw this window display in two different Tiffany's stores -- one in the Bellagio in Vegas and one in a mall in San Francisco. I thought they were beautiful displays, and I hadn't actually posted any Christmas shots yet! (Shame on me.)

Speaking of which, I actually started a Christmas community here on smugmug! I love Christmas, always have, and I'm sure some of you do, too! Anyone's welcome to join to put their Christmasy photos up, if you so desire. :-)

So, we did stop in Vegas first, before heading off to California...but I've given you Las Vegas shots before, and San Francisco was new to me. I'll give you Vegas later. So here is a shot I took at the Palace of Fine Arts. I've been wanting to get this place for a long time now, and when I finally got there, it was dumping rain and freezing cold. Not exactly ideal, but I thought I might as well make the most of it, so I stayed and snapped whatever pictures I could until my fingers got stiff from the cold and I literally couldn't shoot anymore. I got several that I liked, but this was one of my top favorites. I used a warming filter for this one, and I liked the overall effect.

One of these days, I would LOVE to take a bride here to do a shoot. Maybe someday...

And my link for today, some beautiful color (to combat the completely colorless sky you see here :-) )

This was taken from my trip over the summer, the National Capitol.

I just got back from San Francisco and I'm in the process of going through photos from there, so you should have a brand new photo tomorrow! The trip was interesting. We ended up driving straight through the night, 15 hours, hoping and praying we wouldn't run into snow. ;-) Fortunately, the roads were perfectly clear, and I got to watch the meteor shower. I ended up seeing at least a dozen shooting stars, and they were so incredible! I hope some of you also go to enjoy them.

Today's link is one of the most beautiful winter scenes I've seen. I hope everyone here in the Dailies community is getting ready for the hoidays and having a good time. :-)

So these should be the last Caribbean ones for a bit, though you still might see a couple of older shots from other places. Right now, I am in San Francisco and I can't upload anything new, so I made sure I had some downloaded to move into my dailies gallery while I was away so I can still keep up! So you now have a few more birdies to look at before I move on to something else. And when I get back, I'll show you some of my adventures in San Fran. :-) Hope everyone's doing well and getting good and ready for Christmas!

I promise, the Caribbean shots are coming to an end, though I have been enjoying sharing with you what I was able to see while I was there. Right now, I desperately wish I was back there. We had tons of snow today, and it made driving around running errands exceedingly difficult. And it's cold and I hate the cold. So here's wishing!

For those of you who are interested, I now have a gallery of the trip with photos of me and my husband and our various shinnanigans. We really had a great time!

And for my link, this is one of my very favorite artists of all time, I have been inspired by him for years, even before I knew he was a smugger.
